DHS Proposes New STEM Rule For F-1 Student EAD

The Department of Homeland Security has announced changes to the STEM OPT rule via formal rule making. Some of these changes include extending STEM occupation OPT to 24 months from 17 months and requiring employers to implement formal mentoring and training programs for STEM employees. There are also US worker protections built into the rule. In addition, unemployed periods allowed up to 60 days during the STEM extension have been proposed. Click here for details.
