Consular Appointments Rescheduled

H-1B Visa Interviews Are Being Rescheduled to Later Dates

Some H-1B and H-4 visa applicants are receiving notices that their U.S. consulate interview appointments have been moved to much later dates, often several months later than originally scheduled.

These changes are happening because the U.S. Department of State has started a new online review process for H-1B visas, which has reduced the number of interviews consulates can handle each day.

What’s Happening?

  • Interviews scheduled on or after December 15, 2025 are being rescheduled

  • Many new appointments are being moved to March 2026 or later (some as late as June 2026)

  • This has been reported mainly at U.S. consulates in India, with some reports in Ireland and Vietnam

Important Things to Know

  • Do not go to your original interview date. You will only be seen on the new appointment date.

  • Biometrics (VAC) appointments are not affected and remain valid.

  • Applicants can usually reschedule only once.

  • Visa fee receipts older than one year cannot be reused to reschedule.

How Could This Affect You?

These delays may mean:

  • Longer stays outside the U.S.

  • Delays returning to work or school

  • Travel disruptions for employees and families

Some applicants have been able to request emergency appointments, but approval is not guaranteed.

What Should You Do?

  • Check your visa appointment account regularly for updates

  • Plan for possible travel delays

  • Speak with an immigration attorney or your employer if your visa timing affects work, school, or family plans
